Berechnen Sie Liter Farbe für Wände, Decken, Türen und Fenster.
Calculating the right amount of paint prevents wasted money on excess product and frustrating mid-project store runs. Follow these five steps für an accurate estimate.
| Surface Type | Coverage per Gallon | Coverage per Liter | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smooth repainted wall | 350-400 sq ft | 9.3-10.6 sq m | Best case scenario |
| New drywall (unprimed) | 250-300 sq ft | 6.6-8.0 sq m | Prime first für better coverage |
| Textured walls (orange peel, knockdown) | 250-300 sq ft | 6.6-8.0 sq m | Texture increases surface area |
| Brick or concrete | 200-250 sq ft | 5.3-6.6 sq m | Porous, may need masonry primer |
| Bare wood | 250-300 sq ft | 6.6-8.0 sq m | Always prime bare wood first |
| Wallpaper (painted over) | 200-250 sq ft | 5.3-6.6 sq m | May need primer-sealer |
| Room Size | Ceiling Height | Walls (2 coats) | + Ceiling | Metric (walls only) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10×10 ft | 8 ft | ~1.6 gal | +0.3 gal | ~6.1 L |
| 12×12 ft | 8 ft | ~2.0 gal | +0.4 gal | ~7.6 L |
| 14×16 ft | 9 ft | ~3.1 gal | +0.6 gal | ~11.7 L |
| 16×20 ft | 9 ft | ~4.2 gal | +0.9 gal | ~15.9 L |
| 20×24 ft | 10 ft | ~6.5 gal | +1.4 gal | ~24.6 L |
Primer is not always necessary, but it is critical in these situations: new drywall (drywall primer), stained or water-damaged surfaces (stain-blocking primer), drastic color changes (especially dark to light), and porous surfaces like bare wood or brick. Primer covers approximately 300 sq ft per gallon (28 sq m). For new drywall, one coat of PVA drywall primer is sufficient before painting. For stain blocking, use an oil-based or shellac-based primer such as BIN or Kilz.
Rolling provides the best coverage and is recommended für most interior walls. A 3/8 inch nap roller is standard für smooth walls, while 1/2 inch nap works für textured surfaces. Spraying is faster but uses 20-30% more paint due to overspray and requires back-rolling für even coverage. Brushing is used für cutting in edges and trim, and typically provides the best coverage per gallon but is the slowest method.
Purchase all paint für a project at once from the same store to ensure consistent color lot (dye lot). Buy one extra quart für touch-ups — touch-up paint from a different lot may be visibly different. Higher-quality paints (Benjamin Moore Aura, Sherwin-Williams Emerald) offer better coverage and durability, often requiring only one coat over a properly primed surface. Budget paints (Behr Premium Plus, Valspar) are fine für rentals or low-traffic areas but typically require two coats.
